Change or Reset Your Password

Overview

Password self-service allows you to securely reset your UWSS or UWSA network account password, which is used to log into things such as your computer, network drives, Office 365 (e-mail, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint), SFS, HRS, VPN (Virtual Private Network), and eduroam wireless.

Process Considerations:

  • Warning SignYou must be registered for Password Self-Service for this option to work properly. For step-by-step instructions, see the following document:  Register for Password Self-Service.

    Warning Sign If you have an UWEX or UWC account and need to change or reset your password, follow the instructions under the UWEX and UWC Accounts section.
  • Passwords must meet the following requirements:

    • Minimum password length is 12 characters
    • Must contain 3 of the following 4 requirements: capital letter, lower case letter, number, and special character (~ ` @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) + = | [ ] { } ? < >)
    • Cannot have been used as one of your last 99 passwords
    • May not contain your user ID
  • UWSS passwords will expire after 180 days (6 months).
    UWSA passwords expire after 150 days (5 months).

Instructions for Changing Your Password

  1. If you use a Windows computer and are not connected to UW Network (working remotely, connected to wifi, etc.), first log in to VPN.
  2. Click the following link and log into your account using your current password: Change my password.
  3. At the "change password" window, enter your old password and new password information and click "submit".

  4. Select Crtl + Alt + Delete and Lock your computer.
  5. Unlock your computer and log in using the new password. This ensures the computer is synced with the password change. If you are unable to log in to your computer with the new password, use the old password. Contact the UWSA Help Desk for help.

Resetting your password or unlock your account

  1. Click the following if you have forgotten your UWSS or UWSA account password or your account is locked: Get back into your account
  2. Enter your userID (full e-mail address) and the random characters and click "Next"

  3. Select one of the following options:
    "I forgot my password" - This will allow you to reset your password and replace it with a new one.
    "I know my password but I still can't sign in" - This will unlock your account without changing your password.

  4. Verify your identity using the methods you configured when you registered for password self-service.

  5. If you opted to reset your password create the new password and click "Finish"

  6. If you are not connected to UW Network (working remotely, connected to wifi, etc.), log in to VPN.
  7. Select Crtl + Alt + Delete and Lock your computer.
  8. Unlock your computer and log in using the new password. This ensures the computer is synced with the password change. If you are unable to log in to your computer with the new password, use the old password. Contact the UWSA Help Desk for help.
