Clear Browser Cookies and Cache

Overview

This document provides the steps to clear cookies and cache on various browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Internet Explorer, and Safari).

Instructions for Google Chrome

  1. In Chrome, click the vertical ellipsis button in the upper right corner. Select "More tools", then "Clear browsing data". Or, you can use the shortcut of pressing the Ctrl + Shift + Delete keys to bring up the same menu. This keyboard shortcut works on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Internet Explorer.

  2. If not already checked, check the boxes for "Cookies and other site data" as well as "Cached images and files". You can also check the box for "Browsing history" if desired. Select "All Time" for the Time range option to clear all cookies and cache in Chrome. Click on the "Clear Data" button to clear cache and cookies.

Instructions for Mozilla FireFox

  1. In Firefox, click on the menu button in the upper right corner. Select "Options". Or, you can use the keyboard shortcut and press Ctrl + Shift + Delete to bring up the same menu.

  2. On the left side, select "Privacy & Security". Scroll down until you see the History section. Click on the "Clear History" button.

  3. Select the options you want to clear. Select "Everything" in the Time range to clear option, which will remove all cookies and cache in Firefox. Make sure cookies and cache are selected. Click on the "Clear Now" button to clear cookies and cache.

Instructions for Microsoft Edge

  1. In Edge, click on the horizontal ellipsis button in the upper right corner and select "Settings". Or, you can use the keyboard shortcut and press the Ctrl + Shift + Delete keys to bring up the same menu.

  2. Select the "Privacy & security" menu on the left. Click on "Choose what to clear" button.

  3. Check to make sure "Cookies and saved website data" and "Cached data and files" are marked. Select to clear other options if you’d like. Click on the "Clear" button to clear out cookies and cache.

Instructions for Safari

  1. In Safari (Mac users only), click on "Safari" and then "Preferences".

  2. Select the "Privacy" tab and click on "Manage Website Data".

  3. You will see a list of all the websites that have your data cached. Click on the "Remove All" button and then in the next window, select the "Remove Now" button.
  4. If that does not remove cookies and cache for the individual websites, continue with the steps below to empty the Safari browser cache.
  5. Click on "Safari" and then "Preferences". Under the Advanced tab, check the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".

  6. Click on the "Develop" menu option in the top menu bar and select "Empty Caches".
